SEE MOMMY RUN!

SEE MOMMY RUN!
We recently had a group of moms that came out and ran the Goblin Gallop 5k in Fairfax. For many of our members it was their first race. Congrats to Jen (pink shirt above) for placing 2nd in the women's division! As a MBC instructor she doesn't just talk the talk, she runs too! All of the moms finished and now plan on doing more local races. It was also the first race for many of our kids. The younger kids ran the 1k Fun Run and Kyle (above in the black shirt) actually ran the 5k, we are so proud of him! After my kids stopped complaining about freezing their "Super-butts" off, they actually had a great time running - or skipping as my son preferred to do. Most races offer a Fun Run for the kids. It gives them a great feeling of accomplishment as they finish the race and receive a medal (note: at most races all the kids get medals). It also teaches them that they don't have to "win" the race to succeed, it's all about participating and having a good time. After the kids finished their run they stayed on the sideline and cheered the moms on during the 5k. It was a great opportunity for our kids to participate in a race and to See Mommy Run!

Make it a family affair and get running!
Local races coming up this month:
*Saturday Nov. 22nd at 8am. Infinitive 5K & Fun Run.
*Saturday Nov. 22nd at 4pm. Herndon Turkey Trot 5k.
*Thursday Nov. 27th at 8am. Virginia Run 5k and Fun Walk.
*Thursday Nov. 27th at 8:15am. Ashburn Farm Race. 10k/5k/2k

BURGER QUEEN!

So maybe you are one of those moms that never lets her kids eat fast food. I admire you. I'll admit it, I am not one of those moms. This post is for those of us who start the day off saying, "no BK today" and then end up at the drive-thru after preschool pickup. Remember, you can still make some healthy choices for your kids . . . even from your car.
Is BK Getting Healthy?
Imagine a fast-food world where fries are made of apples, chicken tenders are free of grease, and a kids meal clocks in at 305 calories. Burger King has added lots of healthy kid-friendly stuff to their menu. Including Flame-Broiled Chicken Tenders totaling 145 calories and 6g fat per 4-piece serving. BK Fresh Apple Fries, a 35-calorie serving of apples cut to look like fries. Calorie-Friendly Kids Meals - flame-broiled tenders, organic unsweetened applesauce, and low-fat milk -- all totaling just 305 calories and 8.5 grams of fat. Thanks, BK!!!

So remember, we do the best we can. I know that my kids understand why exercise is so important, and for us it is a part of our daily routine. My daughter has been exercising with me at class since she was 5 months old. I know we still need to work on the fries, but hey it's a start. So don't let the mom at the park giving you "that" look as you unload your Mcdees bag ruin your day. She's only judging you because it makes her feel better about herself. Be happy, exercise, and try the apple fries!

HERE'S TO YOU VERUCA SALT!

Not sure how your Friday night went, but mine was spent watching Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, old school version of course. My kids usually watch 30 minutes of a show and then it's back to "mommy what else can we do". So I was surprised (pleasantly) when they became glued to the TV watching my old VHS tape of the classic Wonka movie. All those bratty kids in the movie are great when it comes to teaching our own kids a lesson about being bossy, selfish, or just plain rude. What's worse than being sucked up a pipe or turned into a big fat blueberry! Lots of lessons to be learned from those little Oompah Loompahs too. So next time you are searching for some good TV for the kids (come one, admit it, we all need a break sometimes) pull out Willy Wonka and enjoy!

What is MommySTRONG?

We've gotten used to seeing "MommySTRONG" on our website, t-shirts, and even our cars. But what does MommySTRONG really mean? Does it mean you can do 50 burpies without breaking a sweat? Run faster than instructor Jen at the 6am bootcamp? To me being "Mommy Strong" is more than that, more than physical strength. It's something that comes from the inside when you think you just can't keep it all together, but somehow you do. I recently looked at my own mom and thought about how she raised 6 kids, always kept her cool, and made each one of us feel special. Even in tough times my mom has remained a strong woman. So maybe we aren't referring to just the moms at our class when we say MommySTRONG, but to all of the moms that inspire us. So if you're having one of those days when your daughter wants to eat butter (yes, just butter) and your son wants you to read Curious George for the 3rd time in a row, take a deep breath, turn the page, and think how lucky you are to be a mom . . . a STRONG one!
